World Compassion In Action

World Compassion in Action day and World Compassion In Action

On 6th July 2019 we celebrated HH The Dalai Lama’s 84th birthday by  inaugurating World Compassion in Action Day and launched World Compassion in Action Organisation.

Host of the event was director Yeshi Lhundup. Our chief guest was a  former translator of HH The Dalai Lama and is currently the director of  the Tibetan Library of  Works and Archives.  Our special guest was Alfred Smith a  former consultant to the South African government.  There were special  guests from 22 countries including- Tibet,  Australia, Bhutan, England, Belgium, Cambodia, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany , Hong Kong , India, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, South Africa, Thailand, Taiwan and the USA. An audience of over 100 joined with us to celebrate World Compassion in Action Day.

The main purpose of this event was to create a more compassionate environment for our world. We need to increase our natural compassion to the point that it fills our thoughts, speech and action every minute of every day.  This can start with the institution of a special day- World Compassion in Action Day, where we encourage one another to live out our natural compassion and to reduce actions that are harmful to others.

We have chosen the 6th of July for this occasion as it is His Holiness The Dalai Lama’s birthday. His life has been an example of living compassion that we would like others to emulate.  On this day we presented our 84th birthday gift to H.H the Dalai Lama: the gift of an act of compassion.

The program of  World Compassion in Action Day consisted of  speeches from all guests on how we can put compassion into action. We showed a video of people from around the world sharing what compassion means to them, another video from HH The Dalai Lama titled ‘Can compassion be trained or taught’, everyone took a few moments to pledge what they can do to put compassion into action in their daily life and  a vegetarian dinner was served with a vegan birthday cake.

To continue the initiative it was decided to launch World Compassion in Action Organisation.
