Background

After completely  Chinese communist party illegal occupied Tibetan 1959, Dharamsal, a small town in Himachal State  in India, is home to the exiled Holiness 14^th Dalai Lama and approximately 120000 Tibetans, who also living in exile. Apart from the usual migrant issues the Tibetan community faces (language barriers, unemployment, literacy, isolation from family and friends and settlement issues), they also face an uphill battle to preserve their cultural heritage and solve Tibet issue.

Tibet World

Since the 1960, many non-government organizations (NGOs) have been set up to address these challenges faced by the Tibetan refugee community in Dharamsala. There are approximately 30 NGOs in Daramsala, each running their own causes, addressing a different challenge.

Tibet World is where the world meets Tibet, and Tibet meets the world.  It is based in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, in Northern India.  

We have been executing H.H. the Dalai Lama’s commitment  1) As a human being, commitment is  to promote human values  2)  As a religious practitioner, commitment is to promote religious harmony  3) As a Buddhist monk, commitment is to preserve and promotion ancient Indian Nalanda  Buddhist Culture.  4) As a Tibetan, commitment is to the Tibetan issue.

Vision is  a role model of a compassionate organization, committed to developing inner peace, self-reliance and to building a more harmonious world.

Mission is  creating  a platform for promoting education, raising cultural awareness and imparting Tibetan values to the world.

Values are  compassion, harmony and peace.

In 1995, our founder, Yeshi Lhundup, fled Tibet to begin a new life. He was just 14 years old. Growing up in India, Yeshi encountered language and cultural barriers, a lack of educational opportunities, and isolation from family and friends. The Tibet World story begins 18 years later, in 2013. Working alone in one small room, Yeshi founded Tibet World to help fellow Tibetans meet the same challenges he faced.

On 15 May 2015, Tibet World was registered as a Charitable Trust (State of Himachal Pradesh Registration No.136/2015). Today, Tibet World occupies a  rented building on Jogiwara Road in McLeod Ganj,. From here, we are helping to make a tangible, positive difference to the lives of Tibetans in exile. In just 5 years, we have:

• Provided education to more than 3216  students

• Enabled the participation of 2500 volunteers from 55 countries
• Organized hundreds of different cultural events

On a daily basis, our full-time staff of 9, supported by up to 10 international volunteers, help 150 students pursue their studies English, French, German, Tibetan and Chinese,  winter program for school children and various workshop and trains. However, there is a great deal more for us to do because the challenges facing Tibetans in exile continue to be real and pressing.

We have various of cultural events like Tibetan Folk Cultural Show, Buddhism philosophy and political talks, share life stories, show document films, and special workshop on Compassion + Wisdom = Happiness or Peace and Cultural exchange programs etc. Our cultural events raise awareness of Tibet’s culture and values and play an important part in preserving them.
